Did you know that the most likely way to make sure that you go viral on Pinterest is to research the latest trends and reverse engineer their success?
But going viral and creating trending content comes with so many questions. What is currently trending? How is it relevant to my business? How will my ideal clients react to it?
As always, I'm ready to navigate you through it all and find some clarity amongst the chaos!
So let's start with the basics...
The most reliable source of trending content comes from Pinterest itself.
Pinterest has a business section of their app/website that keeps you totally up to date of not only the statistics of what is trending at the moment, but what they predict will be trending in the future.
Recently they shared that there had been a 146% increase in searches for 'spa interior designs' and 'calming bathroom ideas.' If you sell a product that fits in with this niche (candles, relaxation products, oils, crystals, skincare, interior design etc) then you can absolutely jump onto this trend.
If we ask ourselves why people are searching for this topic, it's likely because they are trying to create an aesthetically pleasing environment where they can prioritise self care.
How does your product or business help them to do that?
Someone who runs a crystal subscription box could quickly write a blog titled 'Why these crystals deserve a place in your home spa.'
I have a client who sells candles, so after seeing this trend we moved her marketing to be focused towards this trend; 'The top 5 candles that will upgrade your bathroom to the exclusive spa experience that you deserve.'
Are you starting to see how we can use trends to our advantage?
And that's okay.
In fact it's not only okay, it's a good sign! If you think you can fit into every trend that comes along it's likely that you haven't done the correct amount of ideal client research.
Trends change all the time, just keep an eye on them and have an open mind and I promise that soon enough you'll find some trends that work for you.
Is it any surprise that in the lead up to Easter the most search food trends were all Easter related?
Easter eggs and Easter cake recipes topped the charts. There was also a huge surge in searches for how to keep the children busy over the Easter holidays. (Got a crafting, family excursions or children's subscription box business? The lead up to holidays are a good time to ramp up your marketing).
As soon as the sun was out then there was a 152% increase in 'trending sunglasses' and 156% increase in 'victory garden' and gardening related searches.
Pinterest trending topics give us an insight into how consumers are thinking, and if they are thinking like that online, then it's likely the customers that you already have in your networks and communities feel the same.
Another trending topic on Pinterest this month has been EVERYTHING prom related.
Now due to the Pandemic, a lot of people have missed out on their proms and summer ball's over the last few years, so we can guarantee that this year people are going to go BIG!
People are searching everything from prom hair and make up ideas, accessories, dresses, suits, gifts, prom packages (including skincare preparation, girls days out) limos and transportation...
The list is endless.
But if you have a service or product in this area, then get some pins up on Pinterest asap that are going to start generating some leads for you.
Pinterest themselves release an annual prediction of next years trends, so make sure you are signed up to that email list.
This can help us to have an overview of our marketing campaign for the following year as a big picture and then follow the smaller/surprise trends as and when they arise!
