So you've found you niche, created your brand and content and just as you're starting to feel confident in your strategy you keep hearing people talking about SEO...
What on earth is SEO?!
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a valuable tool that drives organic traffic (potential clients) to your website or sales page. SEO is an essential part of your online presence, particularly for small business owners and ecommerce sites but if we're being real, we may not have the budget at the beginning of our business to hire a dedicated SEO professional.
When I'm running my Pinterest trainings, I always talk about Pinterest SEO, and this is certainly an area where you can trial your knowledge and my tips to see how SEO can start to work for you...
Choose an SEO friendly username for your Pinterest business account. Your name on Pinterest is included in your URL so you want to make sure its relevant and searchable for your niche.
Optimise your bio by using keywords in your description that let your clients know exactly who you are and what you do.
Create at least one board which has keywords in the title and description of that board. basically, anywhere on Pinterest that you can write text, make sure that it has your keywords in it!
As long as you own your website you can claim this on Pinterest by adding a simple piece of coding. This not only verifies your website and avoids your links being identified as spam but also means you can track your analytics better and report on your SEO goals more accurately.
As a search engine, Pinterest curates their “feed” based on what a user is searching for and how those key terms are used in the Pins being shared by content creators. These key search terms are what we refer to as your 'keywords.'
Use the search bar to search for words relevant to your business and see what other words/searches Pinterest suggests. This gives a pretty good indicator as to what searches are already being conducted and what words in your category are popular.
In order to see success on this platform, you first need to determine what Pinterest means for your business and set appropriate goals.
Keep in mind that Pinterest can take a little longer for you to see results compared to other Google and Facebook. But I promise you, that once they leads come, they will be so well qualified and ready to buy what you're selling.
SEO and algorithms always have so many tips and tricks about how to increase their success, but one thing that will always stand out above the rest, is the quality of the content you are creating in the first place.
Aim for quality content, that provokes a high level on engagement. By this I mean likes, comments, shares, clicks, clear call to action...if your pin starts generating interest then Pinterest, the algorithms and all SEO will immediately increase and kick into action!
